The Viva Villa cocktail is a refreshing, light and slightly sweet cocktail that is perfect for any time of the day. It resembles a Pina Colada in some ways but has its own unique twist.
Classic cocktail books hold a special place in our hearts. There was a simplicity to the recipes that appeared more interested in getting you drunk. The Viva Villa was one we came upon that was wonderful in its simplicity. We adjusted it to our taste. But we hope you’ll enjoy it just as much as we did.

How To Make a Viva Villa Cocktail
Simple recipes, in our experience, are usually the best. Master the classic viva villa, the ideal storecupboard cocktail. Add a splash of orange bitters and Mediterranean Sea salt to your usual serving for a simple twist.
This recipe requires tequila, lime juice, and sugar. And it’s best served in a salt-rimmed old-fashioned glass.
- 3 ounces tequila Anejo. We’re currently obsessed with Tequila Avion. But any high-quality Anejo tequila would do.
- Lime juice from one lime
- 1 teaspoon fine sugar
- 2 tsp Mediterranean Sea salt
- 2 teaspoons orange bitters
- Dash of water
- Crushed ice
Combine the sea salt, sugar, and water in the bottom of a frozen rock’s glass. Then mix them until dissolved. Fill the rocks glass to the full with crushed ice. Stir in the tequila and bitters vigorously. Garnish with a slice of lime.
The tequila takes center stage in the Viva Villa, with the other ingredients serving as the Pips to the tequila’s Gladys Knight.
